Fathers Day Approaches

With Father’s Day just around the corner, I’m sure a lot of you are already gift shopping for your Dad. Sometimes we gun guys can be hard to shop for, and even when you know what we want, we can be picky about what caliber/brand/size/color we want.

In this article, we’ll be going over SLWS Top Five Gun Gifts for your dad.

First off: MAGAZINES – a Six Pack of Magpul PMAG’s. Currently available at Salt Lake Wholesale Sports by phone, our Gen2 30 rd PMAG’s stay pretty consistently at $12.95 each.

Glock Standard Magazines with our law enforcement discount are always $21 each.

Second: Defensive ammunition – When was the last time those hollow point rounds in your ankle pistol magazine were unloaded? I know a Glock will still fire with about a pound of sock lint (maybe from personal experience, maybe not) but let’s not risk it or old ammunition. Federal 9mm HST is $20 or less per box OF 50 ROUNDS all the time from Salt Lake Wholesale Sports.

Third: New Eye and Ear Protection – Even just a $5 pair of clean Edge Eyewear DragonFire glasses and some Peltor RangeGuard Ear Pro for $49 makes a great gift on a budget that will get regular use and will make someone more comfortable long-term.

Fourth: A 40 caliber to 9mm conversion barrel – If your Father still has his 40 caliber Glock, why not purchase him a stainless steel threaded barrel that will convert his full size Glock 22 to a 9mm for only $49.

Lastly, a Vortex Sparc Gen2 red dot. LEO Pricing makes these awesome, low profile optics only $165.99. They come with a no questions asked LIFETIME warranty. If you’d like to know more about these products give us a shout at (801) 485-4867.

Respectfully, Salt Lake Wholesale Sports.

The presence of guns in homes is increasingly common, whether due to home protection, inheritance, collecting purposes, hunting habits, or more. There are many reasons to obtain a gun safe for a home that contains guns. They can both protect your guns, as well as protect those inside from gun-related accidents. Firearms need to be treated with respect, which is why it is vital to store them properly.

Prevent Accidents

Gun-related accidents happen on a daily basis. Storing your guns in a gun safe can help to minimize the possibility of these accidents from occurring. This step is incredibly important for homes with children who don’t understand the danger of guns.

Control Access

A gun safe will allow you to control both who can access your guns, as well as when they can access them. This is useful for many reasons. Burglars are likely to steal guns from a property, which can be prevented with the use of a gun safe. Additionally, a gun safe will keep your guns out of sight, which can provide further protection.

Protect from Lawsuits

If your gun is stolen and a crime is committed with your gun, it is incredibly important that you be able to prove that you have taken the steps necessary to securely protect your guns. Otherwise, lawsuits may arise and result in significant problems. In many places, it is required by law to have a place in which to securely store your guns.

Insurance Purposes

Insurance may not cover the total value of your guns if they are stolen. In addition, some insurance policies may require you to obtain a gun safe before they will provide compensation for stolen guns. A gun safe will also allow you to store other valuable possessions, which can provide superior protection for your important belongings.

Many people choose to carry a concealed weapon in order to provide an increased sense of security and more effective self-defense. Obtaining a concealed carry permit is a vital step to ensure that you can legally carry a concealed weapon in the state of Utah. In addition, many states practice reciprocity with Utah, which means that obtaining a concealed carry permit in Utah may allow individuals to carry a concealed weapon in many additional states. It is important to research the laws prior to traveling, as reciprocity laws may change at any time.

The Process

Utah is a “shall issue” state. This means that as long as the applicants meet all of the outlined requirements, a concealed carry permit will be issued. In Utah, applicants are required to be 21 years of age, though provisional permits are available for those between the ages of 18 and 21. They must also have certification from the successful completion of a BCI certified firearms familiarity course. Applicants must show “proof of good character” which generally means that they can’t have been previously convicted of a felony, violent crime, and several other prior convictions. Fingerprints, photos, and copies of IDs are required during the application process.

The Benefits of Having a CCW Permit

A CCW permit provides many benefits to those who obtain them. They allow individuals to carry a concealed weapon in many different places, though they are still prohibited in secure areas, religious organizations, private residences, and a few other locations. Obtaining one of these permits also allows open carry with loaded firearms, whereas those without a CCW permit may only open carry with a firearm that is unloaded.

Obtaining a concealed carry permit in Utah can go a long way toward improving your safety and ensuring that you have appropriate protection. Understanding the laws is vital in ensuring that you are following the applicable gun laws in Utah.

Every firearm needs to be treated with a great deal of respect. Gun-related accidents occur on a daily basis, which is why gun safety is incredibly important. This can help to minimize the likelihood of gun accidents from occurring. Whether you have a gun for home protection or recreational purposes, it is vital to ensure that you know some of the basics of gun safety.

  1. Keep Gun Unloaded when it Isn’t in Use

A gun should never be loaded unless you intend to use it. Ensure that you unload your gun prior to storing it, as well as whenever you finish using it.

  1. Always Treat a Gun as though it is Loaded

Though you should ensure that your gun is unloaded whenever it isn’t in use, you should always treat the gun like it is loaded. Ensure that your finger is kept off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot and handle the firearm carefully at all times.

  1. Careful Aim

Never point your gun in a direction that you don’t intend to shoot, even if it is unloaded. Make sure that the gun is always pointed in a safe direction.

  1. Remain Aware

Be aware of your surroundings whenever you shoot a gun. Ensure that you know what lies beyond your target, as well as if the target could potentially cause the bullet to ricochet in an unexpected direction.

  1. Use Eye and Ear Protection

Not only can the loud sounds of gunfire cause damage to your ears, but they also release heat and chemicals that can cause injury to your eyes. Using protection can help to protect you from these negative effects of gun use.

  1. Store Securely

It is vital to keep your guns stored securely in a gun safe whenever they aren’t in use. This will help to control access to the guns, which will ensure that they don’t fall into the hands of unauthorized individuals.

  1. Familiarize Yourself

Make sure that you are familiar with every aspect of your gun. Learn how it operates, as well as how to properly maintain and clean the gun. Ensure that you clean the gun whenever you are done using it and only use the intended ammunition for the gun.
